Dark interiors were once seen as the realm only to be occupied by Vampires and a mid nineties Lawrence Llewellyn- Bowen. They were seen as dismal, depressing and every home-style magazine told you that a dark interior would make your home look like a 6foot by 6foot cave.
“Paint everything off white!” Was the mantra for creating our living spaces, and Magnolia and taupe were King.

Dark interiors are where it’s at.
From Victorian Terraces to new build apartments, dark interiors are being embraced.
Dark grey’s, blues and greens all make a wonderful backdrop to build a room around. Far from making a room look pokey and cold, dark walls create a wonderful, cosy back drop to create a dramatic but understated welcoming space.
An almost near black room can be accessorised with lighting, bright furniture and colour pops of amazing neon pieces to create a modern look with a classic backdrop, and a classic Georgian sitting room painted in a classic, dark red can instantly transport you back in time to a gentlemen’s smoking room.
For modern living or to create a classic feel, dark is the way to go.
Don’t want to go the whole hog and have a completely dark interior? If you love the look of dark walls but you also have dark furniture, accessories and artwork to display, flooring is an important consideration. Offsetting the dark walls with a lighter, painted, tiled or carpeted floor can create an amazing contrast and lift a room.
Colour pops! Dark walls look amazing when paired with bright furniture or feature walls with contrasting bright colours and patterns. It also gives you the chance to be creative with much loved furniture – if you can’t finds the bright furniture you would like to create your look, up cycling your existing furniture with paint is a fantastic way to inject new life into your interiors.
It’s not just greys, off blacks and dark blues that can create an impressive, dark interior. Classic dark reds induce a feeling of opulence and luxury. When combined with clever lighting and displays of quirky, eccentric artwork, deep reds create a classic, timeless feel.
Never underestimate the power of lighting. In a dark interior, lighting is your friend, lifting and creating dramatic contrasts of light and dark. This room makes wonderful use of dramatic, dark wallpaper showing that you are not just limited to paint to create the dark effect.
