So many of you read and loved my write up about using eco friendly materials in the construction of your homes and buildings (thank you!). The exciting news is that you can make some great decisions by using eco -friendly materials for your interiors too. I have already told you about paint, but let's talk about something that you use the most on a daily basis. Your BED!
With buy to let properties on the rise, and with around 5 million households in rented accomodation, that is a LOT of beds! [source Guardian.com]. Landlords being under pressure to provide furnished properties at a low budget, means that a lot of these beds end up in landfill. So it is time that we thought about a sustainable alternative!
Happy Beds have teamed up with Germany’s Room in a Box to bring the UK’s first and ONLY cardboard bed. It is 100% recyclable – no screws and no pieces holding it together, it is purely cardboard, as well as having low emission and being completely vegan. Oh, and perfect for DIY-phobes as there are no tools etc needed to put it together – it goes up in seconds.
Available in four finishes – classic cardboard, white, black and petrol – this alternative material bed is vegan and low-emission, as well as stylish and durable. Designed with versatility in mind, the hard wearing bed can easily be moved or stored when not in use, proving an adaptable option for space stretched properties or landlords needing impermanent sleeping solutions.
A proven seller across Europe, particularly in high-rise and multi-occupation properties where
transporting bulky items is problematic, the lightweight Room in a Box bed has now been made available to UK buyers via Happy Beds for the first time.
Joy Richards, Sleep Specialist at Happy Beds, said:
“This is a product that’s so unique it has the potential to change landlords’ lives forever. Our
company ethos is “because everyone deserves a good night’s sleep” and that shouldn’t be any
different for anyone looking for an eco-friendly or space-saving alternative to a classic bed.
“Its clever concertina-design and lightweight materials have already made it a hit with landlords in Berlin, Munich and Paris and we hope the Room in a Box bed will provide UK sleepers with a truly-unique and affordable substitute to the traditional bed.”
Gerald Dissen, Co-Founder of Room in a Box added:
"We started ROOM IN A BOX in 2013 with the vision to create eco-friendly and super-portable
furniture, and we’ve gone from strength to strength. Our customers love our sustainable corrugated cardboard furniture because it helps them live a low-emissions life, while also being extremely durable. We are very excited to work alongside Happy Beds as a partner and to be able to help British customers to live a more flexible and sustainable lifestyle.”
Based entirely in the UK, all of Happy Beds’ own products are built to order and sent from its Manchester distribution centre. Room in a Box is a German design and made bed exclusively sold by Happy Beds within the UK.
